Pimp C Biography

Pimp C, born Chad Butler, started his legendary career in 1987 with his childhood best friend, rapper Bun B, as the GRAMMY Award-nominated hip-hop group Underground Kingz (UGK). Their debut Too Hard to Swallow was released in 1992, followed by a slew of acclaimed releases including the career-defining Super Tight in 1994. The group’s last album was the self-titled Underground Kingz, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Album charts in 2007 and included the hit “International Player’s Anthem (I Choose You)” featuring Outkast, right before Pimp C’s untimely passing. 

Before his death, Pimp C contributed unforgettable bars on iconic collaborations like “Big Pimpin'” by Jay-Z and a “Sippin On Some Syrup” by Three 6 Mafia, cementing his larger than life status in music.  Pimp C would go on to release his first solo album, Pimpalation, in 2006.

Since his death, his wife, Chinara Butler has taken the reins to ensure that the world does not forget Pimp C. She has successfully secured collaborations between Pimp C and an array of music heavyweights, executive produced Billboard charting posthumously released albums, and product collaborations with popular brands. ​He has been featured on chart-topping songs including A$AP Rocky’s “Wavybone, Juicy J’s “Show Out and Show Out” remix and “Smoking & Rolling”, T.I.’s “Private Show”, Wiz Khalifa’s “Word on the Street”, and Travi$ Scott’s “Wasted”To date Pimp C has posthumously been featured on music with industry titans including Nas, Drake, David Banner, and Jay-Z. He’s also worked with brands including Dutch Masters, Blvck Scale, Odd Sox, Complex Media, Mass Appeal Records, 40s & Shorties, and Hpnotiq on fan projects.

Although he passed away over 10 years ago, the King of the Trill still reigns supreme. As one of the most beloved figures in Hip Hop, his adoration from fellow musicians and music lovers is at an all-time high. From his musicianship and unique terminology to his personal style and brutal honesty, Pimp C continues to be both an inspiration and influence on a new generation.
